Laser Therapy - Fungal Nail Infection

Onychomycosis, more commonly known as toenail fungus is an infection of the toenail where the fungus in your nail overgrows. In the UK the most common type of fungi is called dermatophytes and once they infect the nail they live of the keratin within the nail.

Feet For Life was the first clinic in London to offer laser therapy for Fungal Nail Infections and several years later we can proudly say we continue to have astonishing results.

We use the GenesisPlus laser system for Fungal Nail infections as well as Wart Treatment. GenesisPlus is a Nd:YAG 1064nm laser that has been cleared to be both a safe and effective solution for the treatment of nail infection.

Symptoms

Symptoms include unsightly discolouration of the nail, thick nails that are brittle and hard to cut. Although a fungal nail infection can happen to anyone, they are more common with people over 55.

Causes

Causes of Fungal Nail Infections can be anything from sweaty and damp environments, Athletes Foot, sharing shoes with people who already have the infection or from underlying health issues such as diabetes or circulatory problems.

Treatment

Although lotions and tablets can be prescribed, they come with severe side effects. We treat fungal nail infections with laser therapy, this one-off treatment is both very quick and effective, most patients describe the procedure as comfortable with a small hot pinch at the end that resolves quickly.

Result

In most cases patients resume normal activity almost immediately. Successful treatment results in a new healthy nail growing, please note nails grow slowly so it can take up to 12 months to see an entire clear nail. If you have been suffering with a fungal nail infection and cannot seem to get rid of it, book a consultation with us to assess your eligibility for laser therapy.
