Shockwave Therapy

What is it used for?

Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive yet highly effective treatment that requires no anaesthesia to help with heel pain referred to as Plantar Fasciitis and chronic Archilles Tendon Pain.

How does it work?

Shockwave Therapy delivers low and high energy acoustic waves to the injured tissue through a handheld probe. These waves create a non-invasive shock that aims to reduce pain by: · Improving blood circulation whereby new blood vessels can also be formed · Stimulating nerves to decrease sensitivity in the heel · Breaking up calcification within tendons · Accelerates the body’s healing process through cell regeneration · Providing an anti-inflammatory effect

Are there any side effects?

Although it is a gentle and quick treatment, we discourage strenuous exercise and abstain from using non-inflammatory medicine. Sometimes patients may feel mild tingling, pain or numbness in the area, but this should only last up to 24-72 hours.

How many sessions do I need?

Ideally 4 treatments each a week apart is enough for most patients; however, patients are known to experience a reduction of symptoms after just 1 session. Please note this treatment stimulates your body’s natural healing process so the healing process long continues for up to 6 weeks after the final session. Please call or request an appointment online if you are experiencing any type of heel pain.
